Carey Fowler Rubin passed away on Monday, August 15, 2011, at her home in Springfield, Virginia.

Preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Lester Rubin, she is survived by her mother, Margaret Poats Fowler of Charlottesville, Virginia; and her sister Valerie Margaret Shepherd and brother-in-law, Sheldan Collins, of Weehawken, New Jersey.

Carey Rubin graduated from James Madison University and served the Army Reserve as a civilian for 30 years. She sang for 21 years with Washington's Choral Arts Society, traveling with them to perform at concerts in Europe, Russia, and the United States, including New York's Carnegie Hall. She also sang professionally with various church choirs in the region.

The family will receive friends at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, Virginia, from 12 until 1 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2011, with services at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741.
